Doh! I forgot to let my loyal blog readers know that I put up a great new episode of Chas' Crusty Old Wave up recently. Interestingly, the original recording and the release as a podcast were both on July 23 -- only 20 years apart!
When I tell you that this one is truly an electrifying episode, I mean that literally. Not only does it feature another great array of 80s music (with a couple of chas_mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10365057094888352212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-760124618546483000.post-75610395111830523232014-06-29T03:23:00.000-07:002014-06-29T03:23:24.081-07:00This is relevant to my your interests!chas_mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10365057094888352212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-760124618546483000.post-31868351820575527312014-05-11T02:51:00.001-07:002014-05-11T02:57:20.410-07:00COW 20-May-2013 -- "Candy and Records"
This is a super-fantastic new episode (well, recorded on the 20th of May, 2013), and I was back in Orlando as part of a Fringe Show a friend of mine did -- he later went on to win Best Comedy! If you've heard of "rap battles" or a battle of the bands or even the double-dutch dance-offs between those New York City girls, then this delightful DJ duel is going to be a special treat.

Here’s a treat for those listeners who remember the local band scene in Orlando and all the great concerts we used to have -- this episode’s twin focus is on the upcoming Bryan Ferry appearances that were happening that week, as well as both concerts and a new seven-inch, four-track EP put together by a handful of great local bands.

Finally! Here’s the second half of the epic three-plus-hour Episode 86, originally recorded on the 23rd of April, 1993! It features a nice mix of familiar and deeper cuts of great 80s and even some 90s music. Well here we are with a completely amazing episode from April of 1993 -- its so good in fact that I'm having to split it up into two parts so you get the full glory!

Here's another all-new episode of Chas’ Crusty Old Wave, this time recorded on the 13th of May, 2013 live at WPRK. With our dear friend Phantom Third Channel behind the board, we once again took to the air to bring out the long-lost and beloved treasures of the New Wave era -- but this time we did things a little differently.

Annnnd here we are with another fun-filled episode of Chas’ Crusty Old Wave! This episode (#38) comes to us from the first of May, 1992 is serves not only as a two-hour testament to how great some of the music of the 80s was, but also to showcase a little of the wonderful cast of characters that I was privileged to work with on WPRK at Rollins College in the 90s.

A lot of people had kind of given up on David Bowie, presuming he'd retired from the business we call "show" after a heart scare during the "Reality" tour in 2004. Reality (2003) was his most recent album and it was, like the previous five or six albums before it, a mixed bag. Some good stuff, some not-so-good stuff, nothing as dire as Tonight (1984) or Never Let Me Down (1987) but no chas_mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10365057094888352212noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-760124618546483000.post-27493517520522186822012-05-10T04:48:00.002-07:002013-10-13T02:52:21.434-07:00SuperCOW loves SuperMOOOOON!And back into the tape vault we go! Here's a classic one from 1993, episode #102. This was just two weeks after my old Black Volvo was broken into and the core of my CD collection I used for the show stolen. In some ways (and with a lot of hindsight) I think it may have made this episode better than average.

If Neil Young and Daniel Johnston donated some DNA to be mixed together and formulate a new person with the combined abilities of those two men, that creature would probably sound and project an image very much along the lines of Chad Van Gaalen.
High-pitched and homespun, with a gift for original metaphor and memorable lines and a sideline of crude folk art, Gaalen doesn't always hit the markchas_mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10365057094888352212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-760124618546483000.post-42197493163741084822010-11-27T03:12:00.000-08:002011-10-03T02:52:28.206-07:0012 Canadian Bands - #8 - Gregory Pepper & His Problems
There were literally a metric tonne of bands I considered for this position, but so many of them either put out their music in 2008 or not till 2010 that they just didn’t qualify. All I’ll say now is that my Canadian best-of for 2010 (whenever I get round to it) will be killah.
Gregory Pepper of Guelph, Ontario was a late discovery, but a breathtaking one. Being a natural optimist, I tend to walk on the sunny side of the pop-music street, preferring bouncy upbeat stompers over those studiously angst-y power-pop ballads or the current trend of rage-y emo crap. That’s not to say I don’t love a dark tune, like say a good Nick Cave number, but I’m just predisposed to whistle a bouncier song, even if the lyrics themselves are kind of dark and/or chas_mhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10365057094888352212noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-760124618546483000.post-47629272139779510482010-08-29T16:15:00.001-07:002010-08-29T16:15:13.285-07:00Light Summer Listening … the August Episode of COWBack on schedule, or at least my schedule ... the August episode of Chas’ Crusty Old Wave is now available via the website or directly from iTunes.
