Happy Birthday to Us!

Hard to believe I started this blog a year ago already, and looking over it I’m frankly a little amazed at how much stuff we went over in a year -- in addition to 10 full in-depth reviews, we also did at least half-a-dozen “mini-reviews” of albums in the course of compiling not one but two mammoth research projects: a full-blown “12 Songs of Chasmas” and a rundown of the top 10 albums (plus top five Canadian albums) for 2008. And all that doesn’t even count the 12 episodes of Chas’ Crusty Old Wave we published. I’m beginning to think I should re-access my “slacker” self-image ...

Research is already underway for 2009’s albums, though I have to admit my actual music buying has been more retro than forward-looking so far this year. The one “tease” I’ll offer is that yes, I think The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are going to make it into the charts for 09 -- I actually found them early this year and I’m still enjoying it, which is a very good sign.
